Orange WiFi Access help and support

What is WiFi?

WiFi or Wireless LAN is designed for high bandwidth wireless access for laptops and PDAs at specific sites such as your office, home or a public hotspot. It enables you to connect to the internet by picking up wireless signals transmitted from a local access point linked to a broadband connection.

Where can I find my nearest hotspot?

We've partnered with leading public hotspot providers to give you wireless access at more than 19,000 public hotspots worldwide.

How much does it cost?

There are 3 options available for purchasing Orange WiFi Access:

1) Business Everywhere Flexible Data bundles
2) Pay As You Consume WiFi
3) One hour WiFi vouchers

The Business Everywhere Flexible Data Bundles can be used for 3G, GPRS and WiFi both in the UK and abroad. There are a range of bundles available depending on your requirements. Please click here for more details. You need to complete an order form to request these bundles. Once you have been set up, you will receive a permanent username and password for access to Orange WiFi Access.

The Pay As You Consume tariff also has to be provisioned via an order form. Once you have been set up, you will receive a username and then you should send a blank text message to 9526 each time you want to connect. You will be sent a One Time Password valid for one session. You will be charged per minute for the duration of your WiFi session.

Pay As You consumer customers will be charged the following rates for WiFi access.

WiFi network used Per minute rate
BT Openzone (UK and roaming) 9p
WeRoam UK 9p
Orange France (UK and roaming) 13p
WeRoam roaming 13p

One hour vouchers can be purchased by sending a blank text to 9434. You will then be sent a username and password via SMS which you can then use to log in to the Orange WiFi Access service.

It costs £5.11 (excluding VAT) to access an Orange partner hotspot. Each username/password sent to you via text message will incur the £5.11 charge which will be added to the bill for the device you've used. You can then log in as many times as you like, for a maximum of one hour, for up to 24 hours from the moment you first log in.

Which WiFi networks can I use?

Orange partner WiFi networks are Orange France, BT Openzone, and networks carrying the WeRoam logo such as Caffè Nero in the UK.

How do I log in using my Orange username and password?

If you have been set up on the Pay As You Consume WiFi service, you will always use your mobile number as your username. You request a password for each session by sending a blank text to 9526. You can be connected for a maximum of 6 hours using each password and once you disconnect, you will need to request a new password to be able to reconnect.

Can I buy more than one voucher in a day or month?

Yes, you can. However, there may be limits set on your account (for example, by your company account holder) so you should check to see what these are before buying WiFi vouchers.

What is an SSID?

SSID stands for Service Set Identifier, and is a name that identifies a WiFi network. Users must know the SSID to connect to the WiFi access point - either because it is being broadcast publicly or is a private SSID which the user knows.

The SSIDs of some of our main WiFi partners are "BTOpenzone", "orange" and "surfandsip".

What is a WEP security key?

WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy and is a code used for WiFi encryption between the WiFi device and the Access Point.

What is an Access Point?

The Access Point receives WiFi traffic from devices within range and connects into the Internet at a hotspot, a Corporate Network or your home Broadband/ADSL service.
